The Beginning of a New Era in Education
During the 1980s, the educational infrastructure in the district was pathetic and deplorable. The number of Junior Colleges was bare minimum, resulting in severe overcrowding, with 100 to 120 students in a class. Government Junior Colleges suffered from poor infrastructural facilities, and even the existing Junior Lecturer posts remained vacant for months during the academic year. There were no private Junior Colleges in the entire district. The percentage of Intermediate results was also poor, forcing students to make a beeline to Guntur and Nellore in search of coaching centers.
